About The Speaker

Jerry White is a leading social historian of London, a former student of Raphael Samuel and has long been associated with the History Workshop movement. His interests are in the history of working class Londoners which he has explored through oral history among other sources.

His Main Publications

Rothschild Buildings: Life in an East End Tenement Block 1887-1920, Routledge and Kegan Paul, 1980 (winner of Jewish Chronicle non-fiction book prize, 1980; republished with new introduction by Pimlico, 2003)
